Black April Remembrance

Dear Vovinam Masters, Instructors, and Students,

The Bandaid Volunteer Organization from the Vovinam Hoa Lu Center would like to cordially invite everyone to:

EVENT: Black April Educational Event/ Commemoration
DATE: April 30th, 2011
TIME: 6:00p.m. – 8:00p.m.
LOCATION: Vovinam Hoa Lu Center, 10040 Synott Rd. Sugar Land, TX 77478
ATTIRE: Semi-formal
ABOUT:

On April 30th,1975 the Vietnam War ended in tragedy when the communist forces took over. Over 2 million people evacuated from their beloved homeland to take on a life changing journey towards freedom that sometimes ended in vain. The evacuees, including our parents, grandparents, and many other family members faced hardships ranging from communist attacks to merciless pirates. For days, they were crammed on boats traveling towards unfamiliar terrain and an uncertain future. Hence, each year, April 30th is known as “Black April”. The younger generation of Vietnamese Americans should forever remember the Fall of Saigon, which is why Bandaid is holding this event. This day is important to our culture and our past. This Black April event is a day of remembrance and awareness of this tragic event that occurred 35 years ago. It is a reminder that we must be grateful for the life that we have today.

In addition, this event hopes to emphasize the importance of education and recognize anyone who has had family or friends that had to overcome hardships to start a new life in America. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

Sincerely,
Holly Tran
Band-Aid Volunteer Organization President
